July 2014 Trial thoughts….

I think this truly was one of the best trials Saige and I had together… she was so good. Startlines like she has had them her entire life….she was SUCH a teammate. Bonus work that was amazing… she did everything I asked of her which was not always correct but she did it LOL We had a handful of courses that had bonus opportunities and we got two that are submitted for review… the others were all simply near misses. I even got to practice some Champ techniques on getting back on course with a wait and redirect. It truly felt GREAT!!! I truly am one of the luckiest people to have such a dog…….

Paisley got to play with me a bit but her funnest runs were with a JH Savanna Graves (Gabby Graves little sister). They did great and I know Paisley had fun and am pretty sure Savanna did too!

I got to run Brina for mom this weekend as well and she was a very good girl. I always forget just how fun she is!!!

Chili was in heat so she was in jail in a corner

I got to run a couple friends dogs in a few runs…. Zeeta for Anne Murray and I swear I am gonna steal that dog!!!! Except that I think she kinda likes her mom…. And Mattie for Lori Idland…. she is such a cutie pie and actually did really well for me!!!

It is a great compliment to me when someone asks me to run their dog…. and of course I just LOVE it!!

All in all it was a terrific weekend…. blessed to have such opportunities, friends, and dogs…………. — feeling blessed.

Chilis First NADAC Agility Trial

Well my little girl is growing up…. bitter sweet for sure.  I entered her in her first NADAC agility trial this past weekend at the RAD trial.  Lark was supposed to be her first judge she ran under 🙁

I had originally entered her in just Regular and Chances but I ended up adding a few other classes.  She got a Hoopers, Regular, Touch N Go, and two weavers Q’s.  I was not going to run her in weavers at all because she just is learning at home…. typical thing you hear “my dog can weave at home”!!  Well she surprised me and got it in the first round first try.  I thought it was a fluke but still put her in the next day and sure as shit she weaved again on the first try.

It was a very fun weekend with some GREAT training opportunities with her.

I love this little girl so much… she is a blast to live with and she is an amazing herding dog.  Her liking agility is just icing on the cake for me 🙂

Chilis First Herding Trial

Last weekend I took Chili to her very first official herding trial.  It was an ASCA sanctioned trial.  I entered Cattle, sheep, and ducks…. three full days…. 2 runs each for a total of 6 runs per day…. yeah yeah yeah… what was I thinking??  LOL

She did great.  On the first day she got her started cattle and sheep titles.  She got her duck title on Sunday.  I kept her in started to finish the weekend and she came away with 3 cattle, 5 sheep, and 4 duck qualifying runs.  She also won the “Most Promising Started”.  She also won the highest scoring started dog on Monday.

Very proud of her 🙂

Herding with Chili

This little red border collie that has come in to my life has brought so much joy, learning, and new experiences for me.  My herding instructor Barb and I have become such close friends thru this, it just really is all so very special to me.

This past weekend Barb and I took Chili and her young dog and our foster dog to Idaho to “see cattle” for the first time.  Well Chilis first time, Denims second and Jazz got to see goats for the first time!  Steve brought us 3 yearling bulls to work and they were just perfect, plus 3 goats to warm up on and let Jazz play.

Jazz – she did great and we were all surprised at her ability.  She still had a few little issues with the “new person” Steve but she really wanted to work.  It was such an awesome new experience for her!

Denim – she really turned on with confidence and did GREAT!  She got right in there with the bulls both heads and heels.  It was so wonderful to see the BIG smile on Barbs face 🙂   She is one of the coolest little Aussies I know!

Chili – I could not believe how calm and in control she was.  Very much turned her brain on and kept herself safe!  My stomach was in my throat and I dont think I breathed the entire first session she had with Steve!  She was strong and would down at their heads… she got to where she could move them without the assistance of a wonderful dog named Levi (he was there with Steve to keep Chili safe and I soooo appreciated that!!!)  She had great distance, knowing when she needed to stay out and when to come in.  She even did some wall work finding her hole to push thru.  It was really fun watching her work beside Levi… her eyes lit up when Steve would send them both the same directions.  I think she has a crush on Levi now 😉

Looking forward to another first with Barb in a couple weeks… we are taking Chili and Denim to their first ASCA herding trial in Frenchtown.  I am sure Barb, Denim, and Chili will do great… I hope I can hold my nerves together enough to help Chili out!!!

February 2014 BA Trial

Well the weather didn’t help much for our out of towners to get to come play L  Bummer… we will try to do a couple more of these this year… maybe the weather will cooperate better!!!

We did have some hardy people come to play and we actually had a really fun time!  A big patio heater and a couple of big little buddies helped keep us smiling!

Here are our brags:

Spy Cromwell BA level 1 Title (first NADAC title)
Chili Biggers got her very first NADAC Q (got 2 in fact J )
Gidget Lukenbill Q’ed in both rounds level 1
Cooper Cromwell (Qper) Q’ed in both rounds level 1
Durango Young BA Level 2 Title
Saige Biggers BA Level 2 Title
Paisley Biggers BA Level 2 Title
Brina Kinney (first BA Q Bobbi and Brina got together) Level 2
Zeeta Murray Q’ed in both rounds Level 3

Thank you so much to our tester judges Billie Kerans and Anne Murray for withstanding the cold so we could all play with our dogs!!

For some reason I have been a little obsessed about rear end awareness with Chili since she was a pup.  A big test as to whether they truly understand where their little butts and hind feet are is to have them perform a handstand.  I have done sooo much work with her and her understanding of it that it literally took less than 1 minute to get her to perform a handstand… here is the video…

Results Champs 2013

Well another Championship has come to an end… the trip home was long and tiring but having a National Championship to our name made it easier.

Saige was simply…. incredible.  She always steps it up during the champs event but this year she stepped it up beyond anything I have ever seen her do.  Just thinking about the teamwork we had makes me have goosebumps.

She won 5 of the 7 rounds.  Got a second and a third in the others.  Our finals run was…. well…. a “bomb” but neither of us cared as we both came off laughing with big smiles LOL  She ended up being the SilverStakes Champion.

Paisley did well in the PreChamps events and on her team.  She struggled during the champs courses…. the last time we were there a person hid behind a tunnel and popped up scaring the crap out of her and she remembered 🙁  We struggled thru most of the courses and I ended up scratching her from one round as a photographer was sitting in a position that I knew would bother her.  We will see how things go before entering her next year.  I dont want her to not have fun…..

I ran Brina, my moms dog, this year as well.  I entered her in Triple Crown.  She did well placing from 2nd to 6th in every round.  She ended up 5th overall.

Chilis firsts

Tomorrow Chili and I have a couple of “firsts”.  The first first is she is enrolled in an agility seminar presented by my good friend Keri Daun!  Then we beat feet over to a place called Murphys Rest and we do our first herding trial which is just the Herding Capability Test but still our first herding trial that we are attending!!  She isnt old enough to do “real” herding yet 🙂

Paisley V-NATCh #3

Tonight I had a bittersweet run with my Pais…. it was her final weavers run and it completed her Versatility NATCh #3 🙂  I was so very nervous especially when she flipped around thinking we were done… I had to time it to make sure she made time as that is usually our problem…. she had 2 more sets of weaves to do and we usually have to restart at least one set but not tonight… she DID it!!  Here is the video: Paisley Weavers

Thank you Paisley for being such an awesome partner 🙂
